Please Take A Moment To Vote In the Current Annoying Celeb of 2009 Poll... Thank You.

If you are a fan of The Twilight Zone, you are no doubt familiar with the episode titled "It's A Good Life". In it, a six-year old boy named Anthony Fremont held a town in terror with his godlike mental powers. One of his powers was the ability to "wish" people into the cornfield, never to be seen again. For this poll, you get to pretend to be Anthony and wish the most annoying celeb(s) of 2009

Remembering the Celebs We Lost In 2009

Along with preparing to say hello to a new decade, it's also time to pay tribute to those we lost in the world of entertainment this year. Below is a tribute assembled by TCM of film industry people who we said goodbye to in 2009. The montage is set to the tune "To Live Is To Fly" by Steve Earle. The link below takes you to a photo gallery of celebs (including those outside the film industry)

Another nephew present:A tie! So much fun to make-- and so easy! And I love how the fabric just worked for this perfectly! I got the pattern at http://www.youcanmakethis.com/. It ALMOST makes me wish I had a boy to doll up in ties-- almost. ;0)

Happy Birthday To Mike Nesmith and Davy Jones of The Monkees

Wednesday Dec. 30th marks the birthdays of both Mike Nesmith and Davy Jones of the Monkees (they turn 67 and 64, respectively). As some of you may know, the Monkees' 4th album Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Jones, Ltd. got its name from the astrological sign of each band member. Since Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn, & Capricorn, Ltd. would have been redundant, they tacked on Jones' name at the

Monster Madness

If you will remember a few posts back, I mentioned that I was attempting to make a few more toys for Christmas this year, even though I haven't had much success in the past. A few worked out and a few didn't turn out quite as I would have liked. Here is one that I really liked: I found the tutorial here quite a while ago and wanted to try it. Embroidery is something I don't seem to have a knack

The Big Reveal!

I am so excited that I can finally share some of my Christmas suprises with you! I spent so many hours. . . but it was all worth it! Lots of fun things-- and I tried many new techniques. It is always good to learn something new.Anyway, the first gift I want to share was for my mother-in-law. A quilted calendar! Isn't this the cutest idea ever? I wish I could take credit for it, but I got the idea

A Christmas Wish

Hi everyone! Are you nearly ready for Christmas? I've been shopping and wrapping and making my lists and checking them twice!  I love this time of the year, the beautiful lights, cards and letters from friends, visits with friends and family and a time to remember the Christmas traditions that are so special to us.I've been a bit slowed down this past couple of weeks as I had some surgery on my

One Last Pre-Christmas Post. . .

This is it. The final Christmas craft. (Thank goodness! I am about Christmas-crafted out!) I saw this idea in several different versions (here and here)and decided it was simple enough to let the girlies help me. And I love how they turned out! Take a look:I didn't really want to add the buttons-- I thought they looked perfect without, but the girls insisted. So I suggested we use only WHITE

Fabric Activity Book

A word of caution: This in NOT a project for the faint of heart. As a matter of fact, I was supposed to make two and sort of whimped out about half way through the second. What is it that I am talking about? A fabric activity book, of course! This story starts with my first grader bringing home an assignment for school, due just before Christmas break that involved doing a service project for

Final Results of the Recent Holiday Shopping Poll

In the recent poll in which I asked readers what their method of shopping was for the holidays, nearly half said that they prefer the luxury of picking out presents online. The margin between online vs. brick and mortar was narrower than I thought it would be. When I asked this question two years ago, the gap was significantly wider (55% said online vs. 36% brick and mortar). I wonder if the

My Review of The Goonies: 'R' They Good Enough For Me?

A few weeks ago, I conducted a poll asking readers to select an 80s movie for me to watch that I hadn't yet seen. The 1985 film The Goonies won and as a result, I watched it yesterday afternoon. Here is my review:It can sometimes be problematic when watching kid-oriented movies as an adult, especially if you are seeing it for the first time. Thankfully, I didn't have that problem with watching

Fabric Gift Tags

I am not a real detail oriented person. Things like cute gift tags just didn't seem like that big of a deal to me. But, as I continue crafting, I am finding the details make or break ya'. So, I am trying to become more interested in the details.Take for instance, gift tags. I used to buy the sticker kind, you know, from Wal-Mart. Three sheets for 99 cents. Awesome. And now? Here is this year's

Actress Brittany Murphy Dead At 32

This story literally made me jump in my chair from shock. Actress Brittany Murphy was pronounced dead this morning at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after going into full cardiac arrest. Perhaps best known as Tai Frasier in the 1995 movie Clueless, Murphy also appeared in such films as Don't Say A Word, Girl Interrupted, Uptown Girls, and 8 Mile. Sewing toys has not really been my thing. It usually takes forever, involves hand sewing and my version never turns out quite as cute as the original (okay, not even close!). TCM Underground: Get Down and Boogie and Thank God It's Friday

While scanning the digital cable guide to see what Turner Classic Movies was airing Friday night (12-18/12-19), I found they have a super 70s double feature scheduled for their cult movie showcase TCM Underground. Have yourself a merry little Christmas!

This is one of my favourite stamp sets, it's called Loads of Love, I think it's been around forever! Don't you just love this little tree? This was a very easy card to make, I cut the medallion at 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" and centered each side with the scallop border punch to create the cut out edges. I used a smaller square of old olive to mat under the medallion for contrast.  I stamped the little tree

TCM Star of the Month For December: Humphrey Bogart

Every Wednesday for the month of December, TCM is devoting the entire day to films/specials featuring my favorite actor hands down... Humphrey Bogart. In addition to including most of the classics for which Bogie is best known (The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, The Big Sleep, etc.),

I just love this card and the colours! I used Kraft and Soft Suede. Kraft has to be one of my favourite colours to work with...it seems that everything goes with it! I added Platinum Shimmer paint to highlight the snowy areas. I also dotted the

I decided to make the packaging from my stash, instead of spending ridiculous amounts of money on wrapping paper and bows, etc. I really like how they turned out-- and how fast and simple they were! Vintage Postcard

Hi everyoneHere's another Christmas card to share with you. I just love this set and I love the vintage feeling of this little postcard. I distressed the edges with Stampin'Up's! Distressing Tool, ( I love this little gizmo!!) then I ripped, crumpled just a bit and sponged the layeres to give it a well worn look. This has to be one of my all time favourite techniques! A Fancy Fabric Fling. . .

I haven't ever really worked with fancy fabrics-- they scared me a little truthfully. But I found some in the clearance racks that I just couldn't live without. And it was so much fun! I used Pink Fig patterns, once again to make some fancy, frilly, girly outfits. One thing I did learn-- you need to check the washing instructions on the fabric bolt for all fabrics you are not familiar with! (

I tend to be more of a spring person when it comes to colors and clothes. I love sundresses on my babies in fun, spring colors! Fall and winter sort of present a problem for me. . . so I am so excited to share a set of outfits that are nice and cozy and fall-ish. Please Take A Moment To Vote In the Direct TV Ad Poll... Thank You

As you many of you know, Direct TV has made a series of commercials in which characters from popular movies and TV series break the fourth wall to promote the service's picture quality and HD availability. The latest spot features David Spade as Richard Hayden (his character in Tommy Boy) in new scenes shot specifically for the commercial and the late Chris Farley in footage from the movie. When I

Don't ask me why, but in the middle of October, I thought it would be fun to make this cute little outfit on top of everything else I had going. Can I just say that I LOVE Pink Fig patterns? They are so cute and pretty easy to make as well. This outfit is the Bella Pants and an altered version of the Mia Top.

Jack and the Jerk To Host the 82nd Academy Awards!

My disappointment over Hugh Jackman not returning has just subsided... it's been announced that Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin will be co-hosting the 82nd annual Academy Awards ceremony! Although Alec is a first-timer, this will be Steve's 3rd time presiding over the awards show (he hosted it previously in 2001 and 2003). Even if the nominees list turns out to be a snoozer, I'm confident that

CTFD: Teens Face Charges For Rapping At McDonald's Drive-Thru

Last week, four Utah teens were ordered to face charges of disorderly conduct after performing a rap from a popular You Tube video at McDonald's. The four students from Lone Peak High in American Fork, UT performed the rap, which begins with the line "I need a double cheeseburger and hold the lettuce...," twice, causing employees to ask them to either order or leave as they were holding up the

Envelope Tutorial

Here is my first picture tutorial, I hope you like it! I really love to make 4" x 4" cards, but what I don't like, is that it's so hard to find a really nice envelope to put them in. Yes, believe it or not, Ellen Ripley has reached the 6-0 milestone.  That rare mix of talent, smarts, sex appeal and badassosity*, it's those qualities that are why Sigourney has been able to stay in demand during her 30-plus year acting career. Last year, Sigourney mentioned that she may be starring in an Alien spinoff film that would focus on Ellen Ripley instead of the Aliens.  Don't laugh.

The polka dot background was made with the Texture Plate in Background 1 set. These are so much fun to use and it gives a subtle background. How I made it:Cardstock:

Four Generations

When my grandmother passed away this summer, I was the lucky one who inherited all her crafty hordings from her 91 years of life. There are two large boxes sitting in my sewing room/play room full of her fabric, thread, lace, trims, ribbing, patterns-- well, you get the picture. As I was going through these things today, K2 who is almost 5, was helping me sort when we came across a gold colored

On The Road to Dubai

Dubai - a place that is almost but not quite totally unlike civilization!

Random pictures from Dubai. Not the full monty as it were. I was with mates and they had things to do. So I only saw a part of the city. The pictures were taken from the metro and from the car. A word about the metro... remember when New York City and London first opened their metros ... OH ABOUT A HUNDRED YEARS AGO!!! London - 1863; Paris - July 1900; New York City - October 1904. Yeah.. Dubai

Eid Mubarak

Musings from the Eid holiday. Please don't ask me what an Eid holiday is. I really don't know. All I can tell you is that it involves people buying new clothes. How this is different from every other day in the UAE, I can't tell yas. But it's some sort of religious thing. That involves sales and clothes. So yeah.....For "my" Eid, my mates family and I went to a water park. This was actually FUN!!

Amy Green Goes Topless!

Amy Green Goes Topless!Any particularly embarrassing moments in the bedroom? The other night, I was giving someone a naked dance to Luther Vandross with just my heels on. I’d had a few too many drinks and I walked into the door and nearly knocked myself out! It was funny, but it ruined the moment. We carried on soon after, though. Are blondes better in bed? They do say blondes have more fun, so

Patrick Swayze: 1952-2009

I am sad to write that Patrick Swayze has lost his battle with cancer. He was 57. While standing in the grocery checkout line at the crack of dawn Sunday morning, I saw the cover of The National Enquirer. It had a picture of a sickly Patrick and with a headline stating that he was going home to die. I knew then that his battle would soon be coming to an end. Even though The National

Little House On the Prairie Turns 35

On this day back in 1974, one of TV's most enduring dramas (Little House On the Prairie) premiered on NBC. During its primetime run, I foolishly dismissed Little House On the Prairie as a bunch of pioneer B.S.  I used to say  to myself, "How is this show relevant to me?"My feelings about the show changed several years later when TBS aired back-to-back episodes during its weekday morning lineup in

Late Summer Rose

These are some of my favourite things! Roses!! I love them and they always remind me of my Mom. My Dad always used to pick the first flower out of the garden for my Mom, the first snowdrop, the first sweet pea, the first rosebud, all for her. Each variety of flower in the garden was special, and there were many! The roses were one of her favourites. Now I have my first rose bush in my own

Director John Hughes Dies At 59

I was shocked to learn this evening that director and Lansing, MI native John Hughes died in New York at the age of 59 of a heart attack. I don't think any other director is more closely tied to 80s cinema than John. If you were to make a Mount Rushmore of 80s teen movies and chose Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty In Pink, and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, you wouldn't hear a lot of

The pattern is a free one from Joanns located here. I am really liking the string quilt look. Maybe another is in the future. . . ;0)

Show Number 1OMG!!! The show was aces! The forum is really tiny. Ten thousand people tiny. Doors were at 1730 and we went in at 1840 hours. Show starts at 1900 hours. We were no where near the rail. I was obsessed about being in front of Rob's bass cabinets. LOL It's "my spot"!!! Mastadon were ok. Like 70s power metal sludge. At the break, we shimmied forward. I told my mate as soon as Lamb of

Final Results of the Recent T.R. Knight Poll

I decided to pull a Jimi Hendrix and abruptly end the recent poll in which I asked readers to say whether or not they would have walked away from Grey's Anatomy (and $14 million) if they were T. R. Knight. The reasons I chose to pull the plug is because there is another current event that I believe will make a much more interesting poll. Plus, I seriously doubt if there would have been a

The Costumes

We recently went to visit my family in lovely Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and while there, my big girls and their Aunt Lacey did a lip-sync for us. So, naturally I whipped up some costumes to add the finishing touches. Thankfully my mom keeps some fabric around and has the same sewing machine that I have. Perfect! They were super easy and nothing fabulous, but they turned out really cute. I am glad

Please Take A Moment To Vote In the Current T.R. Knight/Grey's Anatomy Poll... Thank You

As many of you know, actor T.R. Knight will not be on Grey's Anatomy when it returns for the 2009-2010 season. Knight has cited trust issues with series creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes and the diminished screen time of his character (George O'Malley) as the reasons he decided to walk away from Grey's. In the process of leaving the hit show, Knight forfeits $14 million! Some would say

The Market Skirt and the Apricot Tree

Before you read this post, you HAVE to visit this site to see where my inspiration came from.Done? Okay, now is that not the CUTEST skirt you have ever seen? When I saw this I knew I needed to make one for all of the girlies. And I couldn't wait for the tutorial (I need some patience!). So, here is my take on it-- not quite as cute as hers, but not bad. Oh, and if you are as in love with these

Granola in the Crockpot...Yummy!

It is hot, hot, hot here on the south coast of BC! We're having a heatwave and I can hardly wait until it cools down a bit! I've brought out my crockpot(s) in an effort to keep the kitchen cool, the other night I made Lasagna in it and it was fabulous!! Here's one of my breakfast favourites and this is too good not to share! It's truly delish ! Peanut Butter Granola (Makes 16-20 servings)

Final Results of the Recent Reader's Choice Poll

In the recent poll where I asked readers to select the movie that I should watch next, Christian Bale's second outing as Batman (The Dark Knight) dusted the competition. Thank You!

Here's a quick little Thank you card that's so easy to make. The size is 4" x 4" and it's great to make a few to keep on hand when need something fast! You will need extra postage for this size if you mail it in a square envelope. You'll have to check with Canada Post. You could also use a regular invitation size envelope (4 3/8" x 5 3/4"), but it's really a perfect size for hand delivering.

A Catalogue Case!

I saw this box in the new Stampin'Up! catalogue and thought it was such a great idea! I just had to make one too. Whoever thought of this unique way to close it, is a genius! I love how the little flaps are on top of the lid with jumbo eyelets and ribbon to hold it together. The Box #2 Bigz XL die is one of my favourite things....it just needs a new name! I can't keep calling it Box #2...it's

1980s Teen Movie Triple Feature On TCM Friday Night

Turner Classic Movies, best known as the home of films by such icons as Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis, has done an excellent job over the last few years of adding quality movies made post-1980 to its lineup. On Friday July 24th starting at 8 pm EST, TCM screens a trio of teen films from the era when it was practically standard for Kenny Loggins to have a song on a soundtrack and C. Thomas

Director of "Banned Sprite Ad" Sets the Record Straight

Film maker Max Isaacson is making a name for himself with a fake Sprite ad that he wrote, directed and produced. The fake spot connects the pleasures of oral sex with the thirst quenching taste of Sprite. A lot of people thought the banned "commercial" was real, which is understandable if you've seen some of the spots that do air in Europe. Isaacson has issued a press statement explaining that

My very first nephew on the May side of the family is turning 1 in a few weeks. His birthday party is going to be a John Deere tractor theme and so I made him-- what else? -- a John Deere quilt! I loved this quilt by Crazy Mom Quilts and used her measurements to create my own pattern. It was a really fun quilt to make. And for the first time I used contrasting thread, instead of white. Please Take A Moment To Vote In the Current "What Movie Should Malcolm Watch Next?" Poll... Thank You

I've selected five movies that I'm interested in seeing, but haven't yet. Whichever movie receives the most votes is the one that I will watch next. Once I watch it, I will post a review. Conan's Humorous "Exposé" of The Fox News Channel

During his Wednesday night monologue on The Tonight Show, Conan O'Brien took a jab at the Fox News Channel's well-deserved reputation as a right-wing station. He showed a clip of President Barack Obama's ceremonial first pitch at Tuesday's MLB All-Star Game as it actually happened and then showed footage of how it was "portrayed" by The Fox News Channel. I hope that even those who take as

Another great AJFA event! They always are, but of course, each one is special. This year Harold hosted the BBQ. This was not an ordinary BBQ. When I walked in Nick, Taran, and Jay were taking the shells off of shrimp. They had about three pounds of shrimp. I"m like, how are you going to put that on a BBQ??? Not to worry. Thursday Thirteen #74: Shows That Never Jumped the Shark

In November of 2007, I wrote a Thursday Thirteen in which I listed TV shows that "jumped the shark". As you may know, the term "jump the shark" refers to the point in a series' run when it begins its slide into mediocrity or worse. For this week's T13, I'm flipping the script and listing TV series that I think never jumped. I can watch the following 13 shows at any point in their run and be
